{"id":1741,"date":"2011-11-23T23:24:00","date_gmt":"2011-11-24T04:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/?p=1741"},"modified":"2011-11-23T23:24:00","modified_gmt":"2011-11-24T04:24:00","slug":"local-thanksgiving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/2011\/11\/23\/local-thanksgiving\/","title":{"rendered":"Local Thanksgiving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, I&#8217;ve been planning our Thanksgiving meal the last few days, and was working this evening on the cooking schedule.\u00a0 During this process, I realized that a lot of the meal is composed of very locally produced foods.<\/p>\n<p>To wit, here&#8217;s what will be having, with the local connections:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Popovers, made with eggs from a free range chicken farm about 10 miles away<\/li>\n<li>We may have some crab apple jelly on those, made by us from crab apples grown in our yard and on some trees half a mile from here<\/li>\n<li>Mashed potatoes and celery root (both from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hampshire.edu\/academics\/5735.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Hampshire College CSA<\/a>), with chives from our garden<\/li>\n<li>Steamed sweet potatoes with miso\/brown sugar dressing<\/li>\n<li>Boiled beets (from HC CSA)<\/li>\n<li>Broccoli and cauliflower (from HC CSA)<\/li>\n<li>Sauteed red Russian kale (from our garden)<\/li>\n<li>Sauerkraut, made by us from red cabbage from the HC CSA<\/li>\n<li>Mixed green salad with dried cranberries<\/li>\n<li>Apple pies, made with Cortland apples from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atkinsfarms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Atkins Farms<\/a> (whose store is 1 mile from our house, and the orchard about 2 miles away)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So only the salad and sweet potatoes don&#8217;t involve products from our immediate area.\u00a0 Pretty neat.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow, I&#8217;ll provide some pictures of this fine repast.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, I&#8217;ve been planning our Thanksgiving meal the last few days, and was working this evening on the cooking schedule.\u00a0 During this process, I realized that a lot of the meal is composed of very locally produced foods.
