{"id":2672,"date":"2014-11-27T22:39:31","date_gmt":"2014-11-28T03:39:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/?p=2672"},"modified":"2014-11-27T22:39:31","modified_gmt":"2014-11-28T03:39:31","slug":"feasting-local","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/2014\/11\/27\/feasting-local\/","title":{"rendered":"Feasting Local"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So our power was out last night, through most of the night, but it came back on just before 6:00am and stayed on.\u00a0 This was fortunate, as there was a lot of cooking planned for today.<\/p>\n<p>The snow on the trees did look pretty in the sunlight this morning (click to enlarge):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2673\" src=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow4-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"tg-snow4\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow4-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow4.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2674\" src=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"tg-snow5\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow5-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow5.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It appeared that we got a total of 6 or 7 inches over the storm.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow6-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"tg-snow6\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow6-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/tg-snow6.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We did another shoveling of the driveway (which went quickly with the help of our houseguests), and knocked snow off the branches of a lot of trees and bushes that were being weighed down.<\/p>\n<p>Our Thanksgiving meal once again had a bunch of local ingredients.\u00a0 I did not take pictures today, but here&#8217;s a rundown of dishes we had and where various foodstuffs came from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chestnut bread stuffing: contained leeks from the Hampshire College farm center (about a mile from the house), chestnuts from our trees, and sage, thyme, and rosemary from our garden.<\/li>\n<li>Mashed potatoes and celery root: the celery root was also from the HC farm center (they have a fall CSA that we buy a share in every year), and there were also chives from our garden in this dish.<\/li>\n<li>Baked sweet potatoes: these are from the HC CSA.<\/li>\n<li>Popovers: eggs and milk from specific area farms went into these.<\/li>\n<li>Boiled beets: HC CSA<\/li>\n<li>Steamed broccoli: HC CSA<\/li>\n<li>Saut\u00e9ed kale: HC CSA<\/li>\n<li>Apple pie: made with Cortland apples from Atkins Farm, which is also about a mile from our house.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also had a bit of a few different vegetables that we&#8217;ve pickled recently (turnips, eggplant, daikon &#8211; all from HC).\u00a0 More on that activity will probably come in a future post.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Thanksgiving!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So our power was out last night, through most of the night, but it came back on just before 6:00am and stayed on.\u00a0 This was fortunate, as there was a lot of cooking planned for today.
