I Presume"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in April, I went for a 26-mile bike ride, which is a typical length for the early to mid-Spring as I get back in cycling shape.\u00a0 I rode to Westfield, Mass to check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stanleypark.org\/\">Stanley Park<\/a>, which I&#8217;d heard about but had never visited.<\/p>\n<p>I entered the park on the South side, at a sort-of &#8220;back entrance&#8221;.\u00a0 There was a small parking lot there, which featured the entrance to hiking trails in a wooded area.\u00a0 The trail just looked like a little dirt road at first, but then became more of a traditional hiking trail further along (click on images to view larger).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/trailenter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2823 size-medium\" Little River, which flows along the southern part of the park.\u00a0 There are a number of nice views of the water, such as this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/littleriver1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2820 size-medium\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I did not see a lot of wildlife, but did catch sight of this snake, just after I heard it slither off the trail into the groundcover:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/stansnake.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2822\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At one point, the trail I was on crossed a tributary stream, doing so on a floating bridge:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dougbridge1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2828\" bridge:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/dougbridge2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2829\" minutes, before getting back to my bike.\u00a0 I then ended up walking the bike through other parts of the park, such as past a duck pond:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/stanpond.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2821\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>which had a swan in it, as well as ducks.\u00a0 There were also various kinds of geese around, including these white ones:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/whitegeese.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2826\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Near the pond are a couple of small, old structures, like this one with a water wheel:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/waterwheel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2825\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As I moved past here toward the front of the park, I passed through a couple of the garden areas, including the Asian Garden (named for the structures erected more than the plant life).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/asiangarden.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2827\" src=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/asiangarden-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/asiangarden-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/asiangarden-768x576.jpg sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Near those gardens, along the front side of the park, were a series of athletic fields and picnic areas.\u00a0 For a park in a somewhat urban area, it was not only larger than I expected, but surprisingly diverse in the types of terrain and facilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in April, I went for a
