{"id":43,"date":"2006-06-21T22:19:01","date_gmt":"2006-06-22T03:19:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/index.php\/2006\/06\/21\/return-of-the-indoor-wildlife\/"},"modified":"2006-06-21T22:19:01","modified_gmt":"2006-06-22T03:19:01","slug":"return-of-the-indoor-wildlife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.seakingdom.net\/blog\/2006\/06\/21\/return-of-the-indoor-wildlife\/","title":{"rendered":"Return of the Indoor Wildlife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, some number of weeks ago we had heard a scratching sound in some of the kitchen cupboards.\u00c2\u00a0 We suspected mice.\u00c2\u00a0 Fortunately, this cupboard area did not contain any food.\u00c2\u00a0 At one point, a small furry thing was spotted briefly, and the cookbooks in the cupboard then got removed to prevent their being shredded.<\/p>\n<p>Plans were discussed.\u00c2\u00a0 Traps were purchased.\u00c2\u00a0 Traps did not work &#8211; that is, the traps (the live trap kind) were found closed with no rodents in them.\u00c2\u00a0 Soon after the setting of these traps, the noise ceased for a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>But then tonight, we heard it again, and opened the cupboard to get a good look at what was creeping around. \u00c2\u00a0 It looked too big to be a mouse.\u00c2\u00a0 Its head was not pointy enough.\u00c2\u00a0 Its tail was not thin and hairless.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, after some googling of images, we discovered that we have a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/images.google.com\/images?q=southern+flying+squirrel&#038;hl=en&#038;btnG=Search+Images\">Southern Flying Squirrel<\/a> lurking in our cupboards!<br \/>\nWe have yet to actually snap a picture, or figure out what to do about the thing.\u00c2\u00a0 We are finding it bizarre and kind of cool to have such a creature in there, rather than a run-of-the-mill mouse.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, the squirrel probably finds it exceedingly odd that there are people lurking in its &#8216;tree&#8217;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So, some number of weeks ago we had heard a scratching sound in some of the kitchen cupboards.\u00c2\u00a0 We suspected mice.\u00c2\u00a0 Fortunately, this cupboard area did not contain any food.\u00c2\u00a0 At one point, a small furry thing was spotted briefly, and the cookbooks in the cupboard then got removed to prevent their being shredded.
