The last weekend in July I headed out on my bike for Greenfield, a destination I seem to hit once a year. I planned separate routes there and back, neither one being the most direct path. It was pretty much all roads I’d traveled in the past, and I did not end up taking any … Read more

In mid-July, I headed out in the morning for a ride while the weather was still relatively cool. I went looking for a bike path that I had heard someone mention last year, but about which I could find little information online. It was supposed to be in the city of West Springfield, and run … Read more

I did not get a chance to go for long bike rides in most of June, so my next significant ride was in July. This time I headed east, and I had not gone out to the town of Ware in a while. I crossed the river into South Hadley, and passed through the southern … Read more

The next ride I went on this year, in early June, was a brief one, but I explored some out-of-the-way spots in the city of Chicopee. I started by riding across the Willimansett Bridge to get into Chicopee, and then rode on the dirt path along the levee that runs essentially from where I-391 crosses … Read more

On Memorial Day, I went for a ride on some roads that were in nearby towns, but on which I’d never before been. First I headed west to the Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke, and rode the paths … Read more

As I live blogged, the Food Bank ride on September 30 began with thick fog.  As I drove to the starting point, I couldn’t see all that far in front of the car. Here’s another shot of how things looked at the event (click on pictures to enlarge): After getting checked in, I got some … Read more

I have finished the ride – got to the end at 4:25, which means my time was nearly 9.5 hours. Not the 9 hours I’d hoped, but at least I shaved 15 to 20 minutes off my time from last year. Going to eat now. Expect a write up of the whole ride in a … Read more

I’m at the last rest stop, in Williamsburg. I’m at mile 86, so I could still finish on time for my goal (it’s 3:03 now), but we’ll see. My legs are sore and weak, and the last few hills have been tough.
